Project Elevate Is Headed to Malawi! Subscribe To Get Updates!

I am so excited to announce that we are headed to Africa on behalf of Water Mission to install our first community water towers.  This journey began for us over a year ago, so I know some of you are saying, "Finally!"  If you haven't been the recipient of one of our enthusiastic (may be read unsolicited) spiel (read endorsement) about Water Mission and the incredible work they are doing for communities around the world, here's a quick tutorial:
  1. There is a global water crisis. 2,300 people/day die from illness associated with inadequate drinking water and sanitation. 35% of the world population is without adequate sanitation.
  2. Water Mission is implementing a solution. With over 15 years of experience, they have developed a comprehensive, customizable and sustainable safe water system they can install in communities around the world.  $3,000,000 people served to date in 50 countries.
  3. I recommend you check out their very excellent website for more information as I am paraphrasing greatly.  Also, it's most impressive how a bunch of engineers are able to master the details and communicate them to the layperson.   There must be some secret high I's on the crew.  www.watermission.org
HOW WE GOT INVOLVED:

Building a better water tower.  Over the course of many system installations, Water Mission has seen towers built to various and sundry local specifications, standards and timelines.  They wanted a system they could fabricate from steel to high standards here in the U.S. and ship to projects that needed them.  Said system was designed and manufactured by a Charleston-based company.  Next, Water Mission needed a way to erect the towers manually in the field.  That's where we came into play.  Our team designed and tested a crane design that could get it done.

This is us celebrating that test at the Water Mission facility in North Charleston, South Carolina.

(Not the exact crew on the trip, but several of us.  Left to right:  Sam Coleman, Ellis Coleman, Eric Coleman, Andy Smith, Jeff Zapor and Craig Ferri)
Late last year, Water Mission shipped their first 5 towers and our crane to Malawi for future projects there.  Two of those towers have now found their new home in projects Water Mission has slated for safe water systems in two communities and we are on our way!

Our job:  Install towers and demonstrate for local Malawi staff so they can erect future towers on projects across the country.

Please check back for updates on our progress whenever reliable wi-fi access is available.

Next up:  Our itinerary and some friendly visual aids for reference.
